Liquid Winter - Yu Jordy Fu
Liquid Winter is a continuation of the series of paper-cut work by the London-based designer, Yu Jordy Fu. She employs the ancient Chinese technique to create elaborate, dreamlike, three-dimensional landscapes. Exploring the language of water in architectural and product design, Jordy uses recycled paper, hand-cut in various transparencies, ‘Liquid Winter’ celebrates the surrounding landscape around the Design Museum. The installation is made from a series of lightweight, identical modular ‘ripples’ which are layered, rolled, folded, and rotated, to form the three-dimensional liquid form. The delicate material resonates with the fluid movement and is lit within to create a dream-like effect.
Yu Jordy Fu attended the MA Architecture course at the Royal College of Art, after graduating from the BA Arts and Design (Spatial Design) at Central Saint Martins College, London in 2003. She has since worked for various architectural practices and exhibited her work internationally.
Ergonomics Real Design
Described as the science of everyday life, ergonomics combines the knowledge of human performance with design and engineering to create systems, products and services which are safe, efficient and enjoyable to use.
From the humble tape measure and TV remote control, to the vast and complex areas of transport systems and medical care, ergonomics improves how we interact with the world around us. Through prototypes, interactive displays and examples of ergonomic design, this exhibition reveals the importance of ergonomics in creating effective design for the real world.
